About

MY BACKGROUND

Aerielle Allen is a Faculty Fellow in the Department of Psychology at New York University. She holds a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from the University of Connecticut, an M.A. in General Experimental Psychology from California State University - Northridge, and received her B.A. in Psychology from the University of California - Los Angeles.

Her research broadly focuses on how both societally advantaged (e.g., White individuals, cis-gender males) and disadvantaged (e.g., racial/ethnic minorities, sexual minorities) group members perceive, cope, and respond to information about inequality. She is interested in the broader implications of knowledge about inequality for social justice and public health disparities. By taking an interdisciplinary and mixed methods approach, her goal is to shed light on how information about inequality and injustice can be harnessed towards empowering members of stigmatized and disadvantaged groups and motivate and prompt action towards change among advantaged groups.

When she is not reading, writing, or having a one-sided debate with data syntax, you can find her working with her sorority, Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc., binging Netflix, HBO series, and Law & Order: SVU, or taking her fur babies, Wall-E and Eve, on a nature adventure. Aren’t they the cutest?

Aerielle invites you to explore her website to get a better sense of who she is as a scholar and activist for social justice.
